Men's and women’s fashion: they may look similar, but they’re far from the same!

Let’s be honest: men and women don’t think the same, drive the same, process information the same, shop the same, dress the same, or even think about style the same way… and that’s not a bad thing!

For women, fashion is a full-on conversation with the world. For men? It’s a task to be checked off the list. And if you’ve ever wondered why you can stare at a packed closet and still feel like you have “nothing to wear,” this might explain it.

And then there’s the growing conversation around queer and non-binary style, where self-expression often lives outside of traditional retail racks entirely. One of my most recent clients is a gay male, and, unknowingly, he pushed me so far outside of what I thought would be the “right pieces” that it got me thinking, hard.

I wrote this piece because I’m getting more prospects who identify or think differently from what has been the “norm” or conventional. I see it every day with my clients: style isn’t just about clothing. It’s about context, identity, and the constant push-and-pull between how we feel and how we want to be seen.

A few highlights:

  • 👗 Women: Volume and variety can be empowering… until it leads to decision fatigue

  • 👔 Men: Fewer choices mean fewer headaches, but less room for expression

  • 🌈 Queer Style: Blending, bending, and rewriting the rules in a retail world that hasn’t caught up

  • 👠 Focus Item: For women, the statement shoe; for men, the perfect sneaker

This is one of my favorite conversations because it unpacks why style feels so personal (and sometimes, so frustrating).

Because your closet isn’t just clothes…

It’s a blueprint!
